Question 6

The one time I encountered an alien literacy was when I was in Spanish class and my Spanish teacher asked us to read an essay about a Mexican girl try to get a job. This reading we particular hard for me because Spanish is not my first language it’s english. When I started to read it I was really confused because I didn’t know what it was saying at all. The way I conquer the reading was going to the Spanish English dictionary and really trying to understand what the reading is about. I was able to connect with what she was saying because I understood what the meanings of the words were.

Question 1

I feel like Malcolm X’s intended audience is for anyone. He is reaching out to any one who can listen to what he has to say. The reason I say this is when he was talking he didn’t seem to really pull toward one side he was just kind of talking about black history and how he became to be the writer he was today.

Everyone has a different experience from what I’ve read. But they have the same end goal. The first one we read was about a guy and he’s moving out but he can’t keep some of the books he has. He then goes on to tell us about why he needs these books and what makes them important in his life but in the end he states by saying don’t panic because things are going to change in your life and you are going to have to move with those changes. In the other story it’s about a women trying to be a daughter that her dad wants. Her dad just wants her to get married and have kids but she wanted her dad to be proud for what she had accomplished.

I choose question 4

The question states that Cisneros and her father have different ideas about what it means to be successful. How and why do they differ?

They different in the sense when her dad thinks how having a girl he thinks of her getting a husband and not having schooling or anything of the working matter. But for her it’s not about having a husband it’s about making her dad proud in a way she can express it. In her way she becomes a very good writer and ends up getting on of her books on the the new york times which is a pretty big deal. All she wants is to not be seen as one of the seven sons even though she’s a girl she wants to be seen as a women who can make her life what it is today without a husband.

1. The reading was really good this one is by far my favorite. It really stuck at home for me just because of how much I can relate with his back round. When I was young I went through my parents having to go through a divorce and I then had to work harder on my academics because my parents were too busy.
2. The main point he is trying to get across is that reading is always in your life no matter what through your lows and your highs. That’s important to keep in mind because you might not realize it but you use it everyday wither that be making an argument about something or just working at your job talking to a customer.
3. This will help me with my MA2 by finding new sponsors and new ways to write my report to connect with the audience

When Brandt argues that race and class impacts on getting literacy sponsorships. It wasn’t fair how whites could get all the sponsors they wanted while the other races had to work harder to get the sponsors they needed. Branch and Lopez have little to no access to the tools they needed to succeed. Brandt argues that race and class have a big part on how people could get their sponsorships and I for one agree with this statement. When we look back on history it is very clear that race and class has always been a big deal for anyone trying to work or even live there daily life’s. So it was hard for them to get the tools and sponsors they needed because of the fact they were a different race and a different class.

All the sponsors will only grow closer with me as i get older. My family will always be by my side and I’m very thankful for that. The other sponsors I have are the ones I’ve always, have had my whole life and I don’t think that will ever change.

The rise of literacy standards from Dwayne Lowery point of view is that he is in competition with himself and in order for him to keep the job that he has he has to read more. Since he had a lower education he has to work harder in order to keep the job, so that means more reading and writing for him. But he has to understand what the reading is so he can comprehend what it’s saying. Throughout the story he gets a higher paying job and he struggles every new job that he gets. There’s also, another way you can look at it is he blow off his education and he felt like if he would of stayed he would of understood what his jobs are about and how much quicker he would of gotten it without having to struggle through it.
